Multilayer hoses are many-plied hoses. As a rule they contain only one lumen, yet consist of layers of different materials. Each layer fulfills a specific purpose, which is taken into account in the hose design.

Multilayer hoses enable a useful combination of different properties, e.g.

• a chemical resistant inner layer is combined with a flexible and smooth-gliding outer layer
• the inner layer acts as a barrier against the migration of medications, the outer layer determines flexibility, pressure resistance or gluability.
• hydrophilic or antithrombogenic cladding of the hose surface,
  material combinations with antimicrobic properties
